STARTING WITH POTATO BALLS

Three Chenzi Fuzhounese potato balls cut open on a plate, showing soft potato wrappers filled with pork, chicken, and vegan fillings.

Think of them as the love child of mochi and a dumpling: chewy outer layer with savory filling on the inside.

This traditional dish, found in Fuzhou, China, is rarely found in the US and typically only made fresh at home or in small local shops.

The recipe was never written down,
only passed through practice and care.

Every ball is handmade and a little imperfect,
but that’s what makes them special.

EMBODYING OUR MISSION

Two people smiling while eating and tasting Fuzhounese potato balls from small paper trays in a warm, cozy setting.

At Chenzi, we believe tradition is best kept alive through taste, touch, and time.

Our mission is to preserve the legacy of underrepresented regional dishes that speak to comfort, family, and care.

We're starting with the Fuzhounese potato ball, and we're crafting every batch with the same attention and care found in home kitchens.

A group of people gathered around a dining table, sharing and enjoying Fuzhounese potato balls together in a warm, communal setting.

We honor the past while embracing modern palates, updating generational recipes to keep up with the flavors of today.

More than food, Chenzi is an invitation to come closer, share a meal, and keep culture alive together.

MEET THE FOUNDER

Portrait of Christina, the founder of Chenzi, smiling at a Chenzi event

Hi, I’m Christina.

I started Chenzi because in a world obsessed with innovation, I find myself drawn to recipes and traditions that have lasted through generations. For me, that’s the potato ball: the bite-sized, chewier, gluten-free cousin of the dumpling.

When I moved to Singapore a few years ago, I started to miss the Fuzhounese dishes I grew up with. It made me realize that if we don't actively preserve these recipes, they would fade away alongside our elders. So, Chenzi was born out of the desire to hold onto heritage and pass it down to future generations.
